CLASS CODES [Ctrl] [G]

Class Codes are valuable tools used to further separate and group Inventory (Parts and Labor) items within and beyond just the Line Code. With Class Codes setup different functions like reporting, price changes and mass editing can be done more efficiently.  There are two ways to access the Class Code Setup screens:
1) in a part use the Class button or press [Ctrl] and the letter G.
2) Go to [F6] Options and select E. Class Code.

The Class Code Manager will filter to view the Line Code you were on in inventory when selecting the option.  Class Codes are typically used to control the Margins within a line of parts and for reporting purposes.  When planning your class codes keep these features in mind:  any Sales report can be done by class code, along with any inventory report.  For a basic example of how class codes are used in reporting refer to Class Codes on Labor.

In the example shown the line code is WAC currently filtered; to add a new Class Code select [F2] New

The New option creates a blank entry; select [F4] Edit

The Line being setup is WAC, the new Class code is called "A" - the Class field can have up to 3 characters (alpha or numeric).  The description field is for internal and setup use only.

Here is a basic example of Class Codes used to indicate price visibility / comparison levels within the WAC line of parts; setting lower level parts which cannot be easily compared to the competition at a higher margin.

Once your Class Codes are setup you can review them in the [Ctrl] [G] Class Code Manager.  To clear the screen so you can see all Class Codes use the [Backspace] key.  The Class Code Manager is a Grid screen so the basic Grid Search tools are available.

Use [F3] Line to focus on a particular line or set the line code when editing and building class codes.
Use
[F6] Tools  to access the options for setting parts up with the appropriate class codes.
Use [F7] Print to print out a list of Class Codes by Line Code or for ALL class codes leave the Line Code blank.

Editing existing Class Codes
If you edit the margins on an existing class code with the [F4] edit feature;

the system will prompt to update the inventory with the changes,

Selecting Yes will allow the system to complete the change on the existing inventory items with that class code.

If you choose to not update the existing inventory items at that time with the changes you can select No and later when you have exclusive use of the inventory file use the [F6] tools and H update inventory file.

Entering New Inventory Items
With the use of Class Codes the margins can be set on a new Inventory item by selecting the appropriate Class Code in the Class field, use [F10] search or click on the down arrow key to view the class codes setup. The customer matrix table has the ability to adjust by product line and classification.  Existing items in inventory can also have margin changes based on the Class Code change.

Customer Price Matrix
In the Customer File a specific price matrix can even be set for a particular line code and class code.  Refer to Customer Files;
Price Matrix for more details.
